Holi spans two days: Holika Dahan on the full-moon night of Phalguna, then Rangwali Holi the following morning. The bonfire marks the burning of Holika and the survival of Prahlada — the older and more solemn half of the festival. The colour play the next day is a spring celebration and, unusually for the tradition, deliberately levels distinctions of age and status for a morning.
Rituals
